Utah Trip

Two days before we were suppose to leave for a trip to Idaho and Utah, Ryan found out he would instead be leaving for China.  Rachael and I decided to go ahead and go visit my mom and dad and our friends the Christensens.  Our trip in pictures:

We saw the "super moon" from the salt flats in Utah.

Friends! By coincidence our friends the Ackroyds were visiting their family in Idaho. We met for breakfast at McDonalds in Tremonton.  All the girls were thrilled to see each other.

Tami and I were neighbors in Kentucky for less than a year.  Now I live in California and she lives in Virginia!

We went to Bear Lake to visit Burke and Louan, and we found another Rachel. These two girls stayed up until 2:30 am (really!) making menus for the breakfast they planned to fix for us the next day. (Rachael is Burke and Louan's granddaughter).

The hand-drawn menus.

Taking orders the next morning.  The girls fixed breakfast for each person with only a little (OK, a lot) of help from Louan and their mothers.

The chefs

After breakfast we went swimming at the pool, played in the lake, had a snow cone, and climbed a fake palm tree.

Rachel and Rachael with Louan.

Louan has a fantastic collection of American Girl dolls at the cabin. Rachel and Rachael had a great time playing with them when they weren't otherwise occupied.

We spent the rest of our time in Utah back at Nana's house, eating lots of good food and shopping.  On our last night there Erin came over and did some fireworks.  It was a blast.

Grandpa took Rachael swimming one day and played Star Wars monopoly on the computer.

On the way home the temperature was over 100 degrees for most of the trip.  Rachael and I felt a little off the whole trip home and it took all day for me to realize it was probably the heat.  When we got into Sacramento it was 111 degrees.  We were sure glad to get home to our air conditioning.

Boxes

We found a good use for some of the moving boxes!

Braden's Baseball Game

Ryan and I went to watch our nephew Braden play in the championship baseball game.  We left Rachael with her other two cousins, Ryan and Zach, with a babysitter at Lorie's house.  We were glad we did - it was 100 degrees for the game! (We were also glad to see the coaches keeping the kids well hydrated.)  Braden had a good game and got one really good hit.  This was the pitch - and the ball is up in the upper right corner of the frame.  His team lost but they did a great job and it was fun to watch them play.

Sausalito

One of the great things about living close to a big city is that there is always something to do that feels like a vacation, but you can still sleep in your own bed at night.  We had lunch in Sausalito and then went to Stinson Beach.

(not very many places you can go to the beach with the foothills right behind it!)
