Fishers of...

For Family Home Evening last Monday we went fishing with our friends the Jasinskis. Rachael's friend Alex was particularly excited to go. Since we never fish with anything but flies, Ryan set up Nathan with a dry fly. Alex went with the classic combination of a bobber and a bare hook.

It wasn't long before Nathan hooked into his first fish on a fly:
(Next up: teaching Nathan how to hold the fish so it's actually visible in the picture.)

If you look closely, you can see a duck in the lower left corner of the picture. This is the duck Ryan managed to catch. I didn't manage to take a better picture because Rachael was the one with the camera at the time. Which also explains the slightly crooked angle.

Now they are really getting the hang of it. Alex, sadly, did not catch any fish (with the bare hook being occasionally plunged into the water just six feet from where he was standing, and that was it) but you can see he figured out why fishing is fun... we get suckers.

Ryan, Nathan and I all managed to catch a couple of fish. Rachael got skunked, but only cast her pole about four times all night. Alex got the biggest catch of the evening, though... he hooked his Dad.

We can't wait to go fishing again!
